C+S was born in New York City where I'd been living for a few years, working my way up the East Village club scene,playing solo and in bands at venues like CBGB's and the like.
I'd been discovered fresh out of school by a big record label and they had signed me to a development deal and were putting me up in NY while I learned to perform,write and produce and figured out my own sound.I was lucky to be able to see pretty much any band or dj I'd ever wanted to see and took singing lessons,drum lessons and even spent some time learning classical Indian music and of course diving into New York clubland, where Club Thing and other tunes were inspired. I'd stumbled on a bizarre dj way of playing guitar and it started to inspire unique kinds of tunes.
A first record is always kind of a my-life-up-until-now greatest hits, so certain songs like Beautiful Lie go way back.I made a breakthrough in 2006 connecting with super-producer Marius De Vries (Bjork,Madonna,Massive Attack and such) and gone to meet him in London where I played him the core of what would become Charmed and Strange with my new loop pedal as backing band. He was very excited by the sounds and we decided to make a record using just guitar and voice for all the sonics.
I moved over to London and began working with Marius on some tracks and later completed the album with Ian Davenport (Band of Skulls producer) at Radiohead's gorgeous demo studio in the Oxfordshire countryside.
C+S was recorded from mid 2006-2007 using just my trusty Lowden guitars. One of my guitars was stolen at a Canadian festival,but I found it on ebay late one night in the studio and was able to recover it and use it on the record.
I released C+S in 2008 and a whirlwind year followed where I played Coachella, Glastonbury,Jools Holland,toured with Tori Amos and Underworld and was fortunate to enjoy my first international hit song in Club Thing in countries from Canada to Denmark to Turkey to Russia and beyond.
