The song marks Mendes' and Cabello's second collaboration, following "I Know What You Did Last Summer", a song from Mendes' debut album, Handwritten (2015). "Señorita" topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Luxemburg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Scotland, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and reached number two in Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Slovenia and the United States.

The video includes clips of the duo in a hotel room, at a diner where Cabello's character in the video works, riding a motorcycle, and dancing at a party. As of July 2019, the successful viral video has surpassed 406 million views with more than 10 million likes taking a spot in the List of most liked YouTube videos of all time.
