Singer name: LEMON
There are various groups with the name Lemon. 1) Who are they? Polish band. Lemon is a brainchild of Igor Herbut. He founded the band right after he’d gotten to know that he had been accepted as the contestant of Must Be the Music talent show. He partook in the auditions with his cousin Adam after the night they spent at a wedding party as vocal performers. That’s what Igor has to say about this unusual experience: When we got to know we could take part in the main casting we were absolutely surprised and happy but also overwhelmed by what was to come. And that was when we thought about extending the line-up. I called the best violinist I knew, Andrzej Olejnik, and Piotr Budniak, drummer who knows how to play his instrument as if he was singing. And finally Piotr Kołacz whom I knew from a different project. That is how Lemon was born. And you know what? Lemon won the contest! Their debut album was released on November 27, 2012. What do they say about themselves? Igor on new album: What’s to be found on the album may be considered a diary of our adventure that started during the ‘Must Be the Music’ auditions and is going to end on November 27, 2012. That’s the release date of the CD. Lots of things happened. And everything’s reflected in the songs. Some joy, a bit of doubt, a few stories I heard before, some irritation and persistent fight against the matter… Some songs were written over the course of one night, others had to evolve. But here they are waiting to open your hearts. What about the new album? Well, yeah, if they partook in a TV talent show, one could easily pass a judgement on them: they have got to be a soulless bastard child of pop-culture. It’s not that simple. Pop (or pop-rock, if you will) bears a stigmata of less valuable music and semi-finished product aimed at the uncultured consumers for no reason. The fact is that good pop is as challenging as any other subgenre. And trashy pop is as useless as trashy hip-hop, grindcore or country. As simple as freakin’ that! But the question we need to answer here is: what’s Lemon closer to – bad or good. The latter, for sure. Having said that, I need to admit though that their debut album is not completely free of defects. The first – and probably last – of my complaints is that the album is somehow one-dimensional. What I mean is that most songs drift towards balladeer / crooner tradition. They are soothing and delicate, which is not a sin, but higher diversity of dynamics would do no harm, in my opinion… This fondness of sentimentalism can be heard even in the first part of All You Need Is Love cover. Fortunately, second part is much more exciting. But now we need to mention the bright sides, too. What’s most interesting on the album is that Lemon’s modern pop is tastefully mixed with the elements of East-European folk. Such amalgam almost compensates the listener for the deficiencies described above by making the music much more colorful. And last but not least, Igor Herbut is band’s treasure. His expressive and charismatic voice at the forefront of songs is Lemon’s most deadly weapon. What are their lyrics about? Well, no surprises here: if a band chooses All You Need Is Love by The Beatles as a cover, then it’s no wonder they sing about feelings. But Lemon has different surprise: their album consists of fourteen songs sung in Polish, English, Ukrainian and in the language of Lemkos. 2) A Finnish rock band founded in 1969. Most of its members had played in The First before founding Lemon. They released their first album in 1970 and continued until the mid 1970s under the name Lemon. In 1975 they took back their old name The First. Read more on Last.fm.
