Lukas Graham is a Danish musical group signed to Copenhagen Records. The band consists of Lukas Graham Forchhammer (vocals), Mark Falgren (drums), Magnus Larsson (bass) and Kasper Daugaard (keyboard). The band has had two other keyboard players in the past, Anders Kirk and Morten Ristorp. Anders Kirk left the band by his own choice at the end of 2011. The band then needed a keyboardist, so Morten Ristorp, who otherwise is part of the producer team BackBone, joined the band until a regular replacement could be found. That turned out to be Kasper Daugaard, who joined the band in May 2012.
Their music combines elements of soul, funk, hiphop and pop. Forchhammer describes the genre as "ghetto pop", because it pulls together so many genres.
Career:
Beginnings (2011-2012):
The band started its career in Denmark in late 2011 when it released two homemade YouTube videos of the band performing Criminal Mind and Drunk in the Morning, recorded in Lukas' home. The videos were shared on Facebook among friends, and soon they had several hundred thousand views. The band's soulful and funky sound quickly spread in the Copenhagen underground and through online postings, which led Copenhagen Records to sign them. Lukas Graham achieved commercial success in October 2011 with the release of its debut single. Its first Danish tour sold over 30,000 concert tickets, even though its album had not been released yet.
Debut album (2012):
The group's debut album, entitled Lukas Graham, was released in Denmark on March 26, 2012, and went gold during the first week of release.
The album was produced, recorded and mixed at BackBone Studio. The songs were written by Lukas Forchhammer, Stefan Forrest, Sebastian Fogh and Brandon Beal.
