ナイトメア (read Naitomea, meaning Nightmare) is a band from Sendai, Japan that works over multiple music styles, especially rock and its variants. Members: Vocal: 黃泉 -YOMI- Guitar: 咲人 -Sakito- Guitar: 柩 -Hitsugi- Bass: Ni~ya Drums: 瑠樺 -RUKA- Former members: Drums: Zennin Biography: ナイトメア began on January 1st, 2000, releasing their first single in 2001 after finalizing the band members. Guitarists 咲人 (Sakito) and 柩 (Hitsugi) started the band, with the intention of Sakito's composition and guitar performing skills the being main focus of the band. Vocalist, Yomi, joined the band shortly after along with bassist, Ni~ya. The original drummer, Zennin left the group later that year. No music nor pictures have Zennin added in for he was in the group for a few months. Within a few weeks of Zennin leaving, ナイトメア found RUKA (formally 瑠樺), ex-drummer for Luinspear and completed the band. The band's musical production was varied since Sakito's musical ambitions had a wide range, and that variety has amplified with the flow of time and their growth as musicians. In the very begining Sakito was the only composer of the band, and, as a lead, quite opresive, to the point he even did not allow to any other member to compose for ナイトメア until 2002. At that time 瑠樺 (RUKA) was willing for compose as well and finally Sakito permited him to do so, multipliying the repertory and it's variety. Today even bassist Ni~ya have composed some few tracks. The member's musical style is quite different, but all the songs are part of an indivisible and coherent whole that is ナイトメア. While Sakito uses an unique style of composing rock of all kinds emphasizing on the melody of Yomi's vocals and creating multiple sub melodies for each instrument in the background. RUKA relies more on western and black influences and synthesizers creating a more strong but monophonic sound, sometimes layered thaks to a seconary piano that supports the guitars. Ni~ya remains loyal to the general trend of post 2000 visual kei rock, being the only ナイトメア member that follows that path. ナイトメア remained on Speed Disk records up until August 2003. During their indies period they released 3 maxi singles and one mini-album. August 2003 marked a big year for the band as they were signed to Nippon Crown in August 2003 with the release of their first major maxi single 'Believe'. The Christmas day of that year their first full album, Ultimate Circus was released. With this label they recorded 8 maxi-singles and two albums, "Libido"(2004) and "anima"(2006) that added a layer of experimentation to the band's sound. In 2006 the negotiations between Nippon Crown Records and entretainment company VAP started resulting into the band's transfer to this last label. In October of the same year they released a new single called "the WORLD" which is the opening theme song for the anime "Death Note". Their other single, "アルミナ" is the ending theme for deathnote as well. With this release their got to the worldwide fame milestone; there are few anime fans that have never heard a song by this group, and in fact the songs included in animation productions are the more popular like you will see in the charts below. On the 28th Febuary 2007, they released their 3rd major album, "the WORLD Ruler". The main idea behind the album was to point out their growth on music and performance and how refined their style was from their early beginings. Meticulously composed and managed by lead and guitarrist Sakito, the album results to be his most prolific work. The album balances slow and hard songs of mainly hard rock. On June 6th 2007, they released yet another single called 'Raison detre' which is alo the opening theme for 'claymore'. This single will also have two other songs: ' kyoujou de ni sugita toki to fukakuteina mirai e no requiem' and 'criminal baby. Later in 2007, ナイトメア realeased two more singles. First is "このは" (Konoha) that was released on October 3rd 2007. And the second one will also be released in October called "Dirty" which will be the opening theme song for the anime「魔人探偵脳噛ネウロ」(Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro), which started to air on October as well. The 3rd of March of 2008 another single, 'White Room' was released as a sneak peek of their next album, 'Killer Show' wich was released the 21st of may of the same year. Specially focused in pleasing the musical wishes of the drummer RUKA, the album departured a bit in the style due to this major influence: there is more classic rock and black influences to be heard, al mixed with the percusionist special take on hard rock along with ナイトメア essential sound. All this suported by some more melancholic by Sakito and all the prior singles and B- sides make this CD quite an unique one in the band's discography. In September and December of 2008 'Lost in blue' and 'Naked love' singles were released respectively. Both A-sides where included in 「魍魎の匣」 (Mouryou no Hako) anime as Opening and Ending. The 13th of May of 2009 their new album, Majestical Parade was released including the A-sides of both previous singles and plenty of new tracks, wich where presented with a more notable rock flavor and some room for experimentation that was use used by not only usual composers Sakito and RUKA, but also bassist Ni~ya. On the 22nd of September a new maxi-single named Rem_ was released, featuring a rock track by the same name and a jazzy song composed by RUKA, "love addict". The very first day of 2010 -the date of the band's 10th annyversary- a conmemorative album was relased: 10th Anniversary Album 「GIANIZM」. It included the 8 songs of the Gianizm saga, featuring re-recordings for the order ones plus one unreleased Gianizm (Gianizm Shi) and a new one, the 10th song named ジャイアニズム天 (Gianizm Ten). Their second maxi-single that year was released in June by the name "a:Fantasia", wich looked back to ナイトメア older styles. On august the conmemorative live NIGHTMARE 10th anniversary special act vol.1 GIANIZM 〜天魔覆滅〜 was released. Few weeks later, in October another box was on sale: 10th anniversary album 「Historical ~The highest NIGHTMARE~」 which contained 2CD's with the band's more remarcable tracks, half of them re-recorded. Also, a brand new song was featured.
