"Pale Waves" are an English indie pop band, formed in Manchester, United Kingdom in 2014. It was founded orginally as Creek when lead singer and guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie met drummer Ciara Doran whilst attending University in Manchester. Shortly after the bands inception they changed their name to Pale Waves. The band line up is completed by guitarist Hugo Silvani and bassist Charlie Wood. The band have grown a following after signing to Dirty Hit Records and touring with The 1975 throughout North America and Europe. In January 2018 Pale Waves were announced as 5th place winners of the annual BBC Sound of shortlist 2018 edition. Pale Waves have been described as Indie pop, indie rock, synth pop, pop rock, dream pop and goth-pop. The bands sound is heavily influenced by '80s music; Heather Baron-Gracie has stated that "I love a lot of ‘80s artists like Prince and Madonna. 'Purple Rain' is one of my favorite songs of all time. But I love The Cure. I love songs that give you melodies that you can sing at any time, but within those melodies, there are things that break your heart".
