The Presets are an electronic music duo consisting of Australian musicians Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards). The Presets were the first electronic act to win "Album of The Year" at the ARIA Music Awards for their second album, Apocalypso.
Formed in 2003 and signed to Modular Records, The Presets released two EPs (Blow Up, Girl And The Sea) in advance of their debut album, Beams, released in 2005 to positive critical response.
After two years of relentless touring, including Australian shows as main live support for Daft Punk, the band’s 2008 release, Apocalypso, debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, and went on to win six awards at ARIA Awards 2008, including "Best Dance Release", "Best Group", and "Album of the Year".
The single, "My People" is the longest charting single in Australian chart history. The band also enjoyed substantial commercial success and airplay with the singles "This Boy’s in Love", "Talk Like That" and "If I Know You".
In 2009, The Presets' Hamilton and Moyes won an APRA Award for "Songwriters of the Year" and another ARIA Award, this time for "Best Dance Release" for "Talk Like That".
The Presets released their third album, Pacifica, in Australia in September 2012. It entered the ARIA Albums Chart at number three and received extensive critical acclaim in Australia, topping many ‘best of’ lists for the end of the year.
The Presets have become world renowned for their dynamic live show, with one reviewer describing their live performance at Coachella 2011 as "unequivocally the best live set I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life."
Aside from the Presets' extensive performance work, the duo has remixed tracks for several other artists including Kings of Leon, Silverchair and Lenny Kravitz. As individuals, both Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes have written and produced extensively for other artists and projects.
The Presets are recognized as key players in the dance music explosion in Australia in the late 2000s. Their sound is described a successful fusion of dance and techno music with the raw energy of rock’n’roll.
